Build Your Business Through Social Media Marketing: Part 1 of 2

Sometimes finding new and innovative ways of self-promotion is difficult. Fortunately, one effective way is through social media. What follows are a few suggestions to get you started using social media.
In the age of the world wide web, it can be easy to forget about printed advertising, but it can be quite beneficial to incorporate your social media marketing campaign with your printed ads. One way to do it, would be to post your profile address on all your publications, such as posters and fliers. Use this kind of strategy to create interest in your promotions with previews or contests that will get them excited.
Many social media marketers focus on the widely known social networks, forgetting that there are, in fact, many small networks that are intended for smaller, but more focused audiences. If you do a little research, you will find that it is somewhat easy to find sites that will target your specific audience. This is especially important if you have a narrow target audience.
An effective social media marketing strategy goes far beyond posting the occasional online advertisement. Information flows both ways on social networks; you can find out a great deal about the people you're trying to do business with. This may also help encourage their interaction with both, you and your brand. You will, of course, have the opportunity to talk about your products, but it's better to think about social networking as a form of customer relations.
Tip!  If you're unsure as to what topic you should be writing about, consider starting a poll. This is very interactive and makes your followers feel as if they're part of your social media network more than just simple followers. You can analyze the results and use their ideas to come up with new content that people want in the coming weeks.
For success using social media, you must maintain regular activity. Being social will help you be successful. Interaction will mean the difference between success and failure. On the opposite side of the coin, when you are always putting new information on your social site and giving people something to chat about, your chance of success increases exponentially.
Place deadlines on some of the social media contests and discounts you offer. Furthermore, don't forget to put a time limit on your deals. This will give your followers the impression that they have to act immediately if they want the deals. Followers also tend to send time-sensitive deals to their friends more often than non-time-sensitive deals.
